  • Deacon Tom’s Blog - November 8, 2021 As long as earth lasts… Sunday was a beautiful autumn day.  As it started to pass into night, the sun was setting. And in another part of the sky, the moon was rising.  I think Mercury was visible too. My friend set up the table outside.  My brother prepared the food.  I lit a fire in the pit. Darkness came over us. Just enough flames to see each other.  Some warmth too. A peaceful finale to many busy hours. The scripture above and at the end of this blog come from Genesis.  It’s just after Noah’s sacrifice...
  • Deacon Tom’s Blog - Blog for November 3, 2021 May the peace of Christ reign in your hearts… The words of scripture above and at the end of the blog come from Colossians in today’s Breviary.  Something to think about as we’ve just celebrated the Feast of All Saints on Monday and the Feast of All Souls on Tuesday. Last night, perhaps 70-people attended the Mass of Remembrance. At the Intercessions, the names of 51-people who died in the last year were read out one by one.  A candle was lit in memory of each as music played.  And the choir would sing every...
  • Deacon Tom’s Blog - November 1, 2021  All Saint’s Day You cannot be half a saint; you must be a whole saint or no saint at all.”-St. Therese of Lisieux   On this All Saints Day, perhaps we can reflect on the definition of a saint.  My pastor when I was growing up told this story.  A young girl was asked by a priest to define the word saint.  The girl said it’s someone who light shines through.  Then she pointed to the image on a stained-glass window where the sun beamed into the church.  While we all think of saints who have been canonized…officially declared by the church…there...
  • Deacon Tom Blog - October 20, 2021 You also must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come. The Gospel reading for today comes from Luke. It’s a reminder to be prepared. While we look forward to the Jesus coming again someday, we never think how it will impact us. In our everyday lives, sometimes things change quickly and we are left wondering. Many have noticed that we’ve not blogged for a couple of weeks. There’s a transition taking place. Our webmaster Mary Pat Hyland retired on October first. Please welcome Michelle Witkin who is starting...

  • DcTomheadshot Dc. Tom’s Blog - Build a chapel here… In the past year and a half and more, I’ve written many words for you. Several times I’ve been drawn to Lourdes, France. That’s where the Blessed Mother appeared to St. Bernadette Soubirous, a peasant girl. And it’s where Mary said she was the Immaculate Conception. To date, 70 people have been healed by the waters at Lourdes. Someday I’d like to visit there in person. I’ve made connections virtually, watching Mass and mostly joining in with the Rosary from there. I’ve sent prayer petitions too. Took some time the other night to visit again. I...

  • DcTomheadshot Dc. Tom’s Blog - Whatever you do whether in speech or in action, do it in the name of the Lord Jesus… I remember Mom and Dad keeping an eye on us as we were growing up. If we said or did something wrong, we heard about it. Mostly kindly advice, but sometimes a stern response. Good guidance. Not so easy now without their intervention. Maybe we’re ready to speak quickly when someone’s words get to us. Or we want to show just how we feel when faced with what we don’t like. How could it be different if we paused for a moment,...
