+ Invitation to join in the 2021 Knock Novena at St. Patrick’s Church in Binghamton: On the evening of August 21, 1879, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared with St. Joseph and St. John the Evangelist on the gable wall of the parish church in Knock, Ireland. Alongside the three saints, the paschal lamb stood on an altar surrounded by choirs of angels. The people of the village knelt in awe for two hours in the pouring rain praying their rosaries. Devotion to Our Lady of Knock has grown since the approval of this apparition and is celebrated each year with a Novena from August 14-22, beginning on the Vigil of the Assumption and concluding on the Feast of the Queenship of Mary. The faithful are encouraged to attend Mass and pray the Rosary over the nine days. Novena prayers will conclude each of the regularly scheduled Masses from August 14-22. During the week, the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed at 6 p.m., in preparation for the 7 p.m. Novena Service. We are excited to have the newly ordained priests of our diocese among the preachers for these evening services. The Feast of Our Lady of Knock is celebrated on August 17; a special Mass will take the place of the 7 p.m. Novena Service. Following this Mass, there will be an ice cream social.
