We had coffee hour last Saturday evening. Usually, I’ll look to join a table of one or two to chat and share. This time I was a bit later than others after Mass. There were a few things on my mind, so I sat by myself. Before I could take more than a bite, someone saw I was alone and joined me. Um, how’d you work that Lord?
I think sometimes we don’t notice Him when He’s right next to us.
Kind of like the two walking the road to Emmaus. Luke’s Gospel on the Third Week of Easter brings us the message of this journey. They’re just so surprised the man who joined them didn’t know of Jesus’ crucifixion. Beyond that, he didn’t seem to know that the women had found an empty tomb. Angels said he wasn’t there. But he told them of the Messiah and the prophets and interpreted the scripture.
They invited Him to join them for a meal. That’s when they realized it was the risen Christ in the breaking of the bread and he vanished. And they had a story to share with the 11 apostles on return to the Upper Room.
Who were those two on the road to Emmaus? We’re told one was named Cleopas. The other? Some theologians say the second person is US…one reading or hearing the message.
”With that their eyes were opened and they recognized him, but he vanished from their sight.” Luke 24:31
Look for Him!
Easter Blessings and Peace,
